Top Stories explores the 1978-1991 prose periodical of that name founded, edited, designed, and distributed by Anne Turyn. Each issue gave space to the writing of one young female author, launching some of the most progressive writers of the 80s and 90s, such as Kathy Acker, Laurie Anderson, Constance DeJong, Pati Hill, Jenny Holzer, Cookie Mueller, Lynne Tillman, and Gail Vachon. The publication often featured visual contributions by artists such as David Armstrong, Joe Gibbons, Nan Goldin, Peter Hujar, Gary Indiana, Richard Prince, and Leslie Thornton.
A complete set of first editions is available for visitors to browse while immersed in Turyn’s Top Stories archive of ephemera – as seen in a newly commissioned film by Peggy Ahwesh.
