“Love songs for the savages” is a collection of transmissions for and by people from the equator. The project called “Kundiman para sa mga salbahe” in Tagalog which also translates to “If it were not for the savages” with “if it were not for…” as a line repeated in several of the love songs (kundiman) that were used as a form of everyday resistance in the Philippines during Spanish colonial times. For the de Appel fellowship, Iris Ferrer, Kent Chan and Julian Abraham ‘Togar’ collaborate on the generation of these atmospheres of warmth by combining their individual studies on the aesthetics of heat, music and collective work.
