The Oude Kerk presents a sound installation by internationally renowned artist duo Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, who will subsequently investigate the relationship between heritage, architecture, sound and audience in the Oude Kerk for five months. The sound piece will resonate throughout the church and immerse visitors in a sensory experience.
Cardiff’s and Miller’s work makes visitors aware that as human beings, they are part of different worlds that do not run parallel. The work features strong storylines in which the present and the past continuously cross-pollinate each other. The visitor’s gaze is driven by tones and sounds, and the work calls for a deep concentration that makes space and time coincide. Cardiff & Miller also play with the visual aspects of music, sound, light and movement.
