Screening: Charlotte (1981)

30 October at Jewish Historical Museum
Charlotte Salomon; Frans Weisz

Charlotte
This adaptation of Charlotte Salomon's life begins at the station, as she says goodbye to Berlin, Wolfsohn and her parents. Director Weisz based his film on images and texts from Leven? or Theater? and on events from Solomon's life that are known from research. Here one there he adds with fiction. Throughout the film we see Salomon while she is at work and sometimes Weisz turns a filmed scene into a gouache of the same scene. He ends his film with a scene based on the report of witnesses: we see how she wraps her work of art and brings it to safety with befriended village doctor George Moridis.
