For his third solo show with the gallery David Jablonowski will create a new installation composed of sculptural, video and photographic elements. Referencing the social and economical changes in the Ruhr area of Germany, Jablonowski looks into the ways the industrialisation and later on the change towards a more service oriented sector impacted the region. Jablonowski concentrates on key questions about the nature of sculpture and its communication potential, the power of communication and what it does to the spectator. Jablonowski ingeniously plays with various materials and often refers to the history of art, using a certain classical visual language and combining them with high-tech materials. He investigates the technological possibilities and tensions of the material. In his work, Jablonowski examines the surface and the evolution of contemporary (communication) technologies.
Amsterdam-based artist David Jablonowski (Bochum, DE, 1982) received his BA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, followed by a 2-year residency at De Ateliers, Amsterdam and a residency at ISCP in New York.
