After solo shows at Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Fotomuseum Den Haag and Rijksmuseum, Olaf will focus on his most recent series: Palm Springs, presented in the gallery. This is the third episode of his extraordinary trilogy that started with Berlin and Shanghai. As multimedia artworks, Palm Springs includes photographic works, carbon prints and a series of video-portraits, exhibited for the first time worldwide. The series includes Olaf's concerns and biographical elements. The future of the youth, freedom of expression and movement, culture, melted into a story that nobody knows, but can maybe recognise or relate to. Palm Springs reminds of Southern California mid-century paradise, eternalized by painters as David Hockney. But in Olaf’s version, the outer world is not so idealised. Complicated, and with a more introspective character than ever before, Olaf shows the growing difficulties we face trying to adapt to the globalised world.
