The paintings of Thomas Huber (1955, Zürich, Switzerland) unveil an ironic and imaginary world. His oeuvre plays with a complex process of symbolizing, using sophisticated techniques in representation: simultaneous temporalities and the presence of various, seemingly contradictory elements in illusory spaces, between classical and utopian architecture. His work fundamentally questions the possibility of representation. The spectator is at the same time excluded from and included in his paintings. For Huber, the image is also a social place, making space for the encounter with the spectator. The artist does not only create the image, he also becomes its watchman, in charge of its fate.

AKINCI is representing Thomas Huber since 1990. Huber has won many awards in Germany for his remarkable oeuvre. At an early stage of his career Huber had major presentations at Centraal Museum and Van Abbemuseum and later in 2005 an overview at Boijmans van Beuningen. Recent shows took place at MARTa Herford Museum, Germany (2009), MAMCO Geneva, CH (2011) Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany (2016), MONA Tasmania (2017) and his prestigious presentation at Art Basel Unlimited this year. His works are in private and museum collections throughout Europe, USA and Australia.
