VZL / Contemporary Art presents United Stars of Ourania by the Brazilian artist Mariana Darvas Lanari, an installation representing a model of the solar system. A stage for private performances, a one to one spacial reading experience of the participant’s astrological chart.
By drawing the chart on the floor, in the proportion of the human body, the horoscope turns from an abstraction into a field of experience. The chart is experienced with body and mind, resulting in a lasting perception, beyond reason.
United Stars of Ourania explores the idea of orientation in space and different aspects of performance art, such as the relationship between public, participant and the artist. How the public shapes the work. What happens when the public turn into participant. And the commercialization of performance.
During the opening Lanari will do a Q&A public reading performance of the horoscope of Marcel Duchamp.
For more details, prices and to schedule a private reading, send an email to, include your full name, date, place and time of birth. By purchasing the work you will get a detailed version of your reading, written, printed and bound exclusively for you.
You can also choose to host a public event by ordering a reading of the chart of an artist, writer or public figure. You can get a more clear insight into the personal configuration that made possible a certain body of work. And also look into how the impact of the afterlife of certain personalities appear in their horoscopes. The artist is particularly interested in reading the charts of Hannah Arendt, Walter Benjamin, Gertrude Stein and Aby Warburg.
Mariana Lanari is a Brazilian performance artist living in Amsterdam, she received a Master in Fine Arts from the Sandberg Instituut. In her work she experiments with writing, reading and translating in mixed medias. Exploring sound, speech, and the relationships between the languages of chess, astrology, music and computers.
Her work, Moving Thinking — The foundation of one’s thought is the thought of another, is currently on view at the Stedelijk Museum Library. She has also an ongoing collaboration with Sjoerd Leijten and Katinka de Jonge, they compose, perform and record audiovisual narrations of Finnegans Wake.
