Janssen’s on-going work on an animation film called The Twilight of Streep has through its development delivered beautiful storyboards, drawings, music, props and scenes. It is with reference to a quote by Janssen that we have selected her series called The Houses to show at Lumen Travo.
“The cat fled to the museum to escape the storm and now returns to discover the place it used to call home”
Each piece of The Houses series is varied in material and design, the works are intended for different scenes in the film. All the houses have flaws, they have leaks and are unfinished. Janssen transforms existing toy houses, transforms their scale, turns them inside out, or rebuilds them with image reference to destroyed houses in Aleppo.
Just as one gets bonus material on a CD with an animation film, in the same way the exhibition space shows scenes from Streep’s life before the film is complete.
Evelyne Janssen has exhibited at among others, Central Museum Utrecht, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, sculpture and public space and in Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam.
