THE OBSERVER IS THE OBSERVED

In November 1984, U.S. Ambassador Paul Bremer opened Michael Ryan's first exhibition at Borzo Gallery, still at that time situated in the town of 's-Hertogenbosch.
Now, 30 years later Michael exhibits his latest work in our gallery in Amsterdam.
Beginning with a classical education in New York at the renowned National Academy of Art and The Art Students League, Michael has travelled a long way.
After studying and copying his heroes Rembrandt and Frans Hals in the Metropolitian Museum, it is with great enthusiasm that he accepts an invitation to come to Holland soon after.
Building on the foundation of his beloved 'Old Masters', Michael develops his own language, his own idiom.
Keen observation coupled with a highly developed sense of color and composition, so characteristic of the American 'colorfield painters', allows Ryan to manifest 'the best of both worlds'.
For the last ten years now he is a resident of The Netherlands and works both in Amsterdam and his native New York.

During his daily morning 'walking meditation' in the Jordaan just prior to entering the studio, he becomes sensitive to things both in and outside himself.
The outside is the inside.

The gallery will be closed on 25 and 26 Dec and 1 Jan
