Jan Pleitner exhibition view
Ornis A. Gallery is pleased to announce ‘Nothing is Real’, a solo exhibition with Düsseldorf-based artist Jan Pleitner. The oil paintings shown can be considered abstract representations of the artist’s subconscious psychological inner life. In Pleitner’s process of making as well as in his end-results, there is no absolute embodiment of reality. The artist constantly finds a way to create his own – deeply personal - artistic universe, in which his physical and psychological presence are being fused into a dynamic, chaotic, but still harmonious and intuitive painterly totality.
‘Nothing is Real’ is all about the relativity of reality and its representations or perceptions.
Pleitner’s color palette is anything but restricted. The merging of different, contrasting colors is a characteristic and recurring feature. Light and darkness, static and dynamic being, and material and immaterial elements do not exclude each other in his self-built, paradoxical cosmos. All of a sudden, there seems to appear a structural colliding of fundamental life-forces, depicting the direct physical presence of the artist in the very act of painting itself. The hallucinating, wild and vibrating work of Pleitner appeals to the unspeakable, the instinctive; there is always movement around us, all we have to do is open our eyes and see.

Pleitner (1984, Oldenburg, Germany) graduated MA from the Dusseldorf Academie in 2010. Selected solo exhibitions include Kunstverein Heppenheim, Germany, Kerlin Gallery, Dublin (2016), MIER Gallery, Los Angeles (2016); Nanzuka Underground, Tokyo (2015); Natalia Hug, Cologne (2014, 2016); Ancient & Modern, London (2014); Galerie Mikael Andersen, Berlin; Kunstfoyer am Langenweg, Germany; Förderpreis der Öffentlichen Versicherungen Oldenburg, Germany (2013).
