Judit Reigl and her Déroulement Phase IV, 2008 (detail), From polyptyque anthropomorphie, Oil on canvas, 220 x 195 cm
This is the first Amsterdam exhibition of the rare late paintings and drawings of the visionary artist Judit Reigl (Hungary, 1923). As early as 1954 André Breton invited her to exhibit in his Paris gallery specializing in surrealism. Starting with her radical series ‘Éclatement (Outburst)’, she established herself as a restless innovator. International shows and recognition (including the 1964 Guggenheim Prize) followed. Reigl’s work is displayed in the collections of many of the world’s leading museums.
