Opening 9 Sep, 16-19 hrs

From inside the studio you can see through the large windows the green of the lawns and trees of the park-like surroundings of Slotervaart. It gives you the impression that you are in a rural area. This area was constructed during the ‘reconstruction period’ which forms the basis for the ‘Goed wonen’ exhibition.

The works by Jantien Jongsma on paper and canvas are loosely based on her own experiences and include elements from her surroundings such as cars, plants and animals. The floor of the studio is littered with collages in different stages as are the canvasses on the wall. The whole looks like one amazing piece of art. The works are created by playing with paper clippings, colours of paint and different techniques. The visual language is inviting; the viewer is surprised by the amount of details in the painted shapes. This gives the artworks a beautiful layering, composition and depth in colour.

Jantien Jongsma (1965) lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied drawing at the Amsterdam Academy for Visual Arts and Painting, and graphics at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. She participated in several solo and group exhibitions and had a solo presentation at the Stedelijk Museum Kampen in 2014. Her work is in the collection of the Fries Museum, the Karmel Monastery in Drachten, and CBK Rotterdam.
