For the 3rd consecutive year, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam organizes a series of gallery talks in honor of Amsterdam Gay Pride.

This year, Pride week coincides with the first museum solo in the Netherlands of activist and artist Zanele Muholi (1972, Umlazi, Durban). Last summer Muholi visited the Stedelijk on the occasion of the screening of her documentary Difficult Love (2010) during Euro Pride 2016. During this gallery talk, curator Hripsimé Visser will guide visitors through the galleries of the show and highlight different aspects of Muholi's work.

The exhibition Zanele Muholi at the Stedelijk showcases a selection of three different series by the artist: Faces and Phases (2006-present), Brave Beauties (2014 - present) and the most recent series Somnyama Ngonyama(Hail the Black Lioness, 2015-present), which is shown for the first time in the Netherlands and four pieces of which are part of the Stedelijk’s collection.

Hripsimé Visser is a curator of photography at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and curator of the exhibition Zanele Muholi. She has been working for the Stedelijk since 1990, where she oversees the collection of photography.

On Friday Aug 4 the Stedelijk organizes gallery talk in English with curator in training Fabienne Chiang.
