Join the ‘Ensemble of Memories’ and discover new perspectives on the main themes of the exhibition from Hiwa K: To Remember, Sometimes You Need Different Archeological Tools.

The ‘Ensemble of Memories’ brings together different voices, groups and communities to share knowledge, experiences and memories. For this project De Appel invites different members of the Kurdish community who translate the main themes of the exhibition into personal stories and activities.

Each activity consists out of a physical, yet cultural act like cooking, dancing, making music and drawing. These activities serve as tools to collect stories and memories. As part of the exhibition, these stories will be recorded and will remain available for the visitors of De Appel.

The Ensemble of Memories is developed together with the Kurdish community living in the Netherlands.

Join Renas Arif and Twana Tawelayi to draw different lines between the themes of Hiwa K’s exhibition. Renas is a Kurdish-Iraqi artist and friend of Hiwa K. Renas lives and works in Amsterdam but grew up in a community where storytelling was part of their daily life. Through his drawings Renas will share different stories and will connect them with the stories of our visitors. During this drawing session we will reflect upon the notions “horizontalism” versus “verticalism”.
