Galerie Ron Mandos proudly presents Stringendo by Silvia B. and the exhibition ENDABENI by Mohau Modisakeng.
Silvia B. (NL, 1963) is known for her sculptures of hybride figures which she presents in a wide range of settings. Stringendo — a musical term that indicates the retained speeding up the pace — shows her latest extremely realistic sculptures of vulnerable young dancers, which are attractive and repulsive at the same time. A duality that stems from the way people behave according to so called civilized codes, but at the same time is still driven by its instinctive fears and desires.
Modisakeng (SA, 1986) is one of the most promising young South—African artists today. In his work, he uses his body to explore the influence of South Africa’s violent history on how we understand our cultural, political and social roles as human beings. Represented through film, large—scale photographic prints, installations and performance, his images are not direct representations of violence, but powerful yet poetic invocations where the body is transformed into a poignant marker of collective memory. The exhibition will be his first solo presentation in The Netherlands.
The festive opening of this exhibition will take place on Saturday 27 Feb, 2016 from 17-19 hrs. The artists will be present.
