In the past quarter century the world has witnessed social and political transformations, due in part to an upsurge in civil resistance. There have been significant uprisings around the globe, protests against war and economic inequality, tyrannical rulers, countless struggles against corruption, and demands for more equitable distribution of land and democracy. DIY Survival Kit (2017) focus on how the utilisation of common quotidian or domestic objects has been redesigned, translated, transformed in different contexts of civil resistance.

Cihad Caner (b. 1990) is an artist living and working in Rotterdam and Istanbul, who works primarily with photography, video, CGI and sculpture. Recent work focuses on the subjects of image culture; on ways the “other” is portrayed and the utilisation of objects in daily life, and different circumstances, such as war, resistance and immigration.  In 2016 Caner graduated with a Masters in Media Design and Communication, from Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam.

This project is supported by the CBK Rotterdam
